Wichita Shopping

(Try keyword "Women's Fashions" or a ZIP code)

Wichita -- birthplace of both the Coleman lantern and aromatic White Castles -- provides for powerhouse shopping at malls, outlets, and historic venues. Old Town, in the heart of the city with revitalized warehousing, boasts boutiques and bistros, and Old Town Underground, in former storage vaults, adds to shopping intrigue. The Wichita Farm & Art Market, in a remodeled warehouse at First and Mosley, houses specialty shops including a bakery and café, with a large outdoor plaza on weekends. The Delano District, west of the Arkansas River on West Douglas, features souvenir and specialty stores including Hatman Jack's Wichita Hat Works for top hats to 10-gallon Stetsons. The Yard on Central Avenue specializes in new and used tool bargains, Vic's Corn Popper on Andover Road sells gourmet flavors in assorted varieties, and Uptown Paws on 21st Street knows how to put on the dog even for snooty felines. Nifty Nut House, family owned since 1937, stocks assorted varieties from raw to roasted and chocolate-covered. Marshmallow Kisses specializes in all things for baby, from bedding to car seats.

Memories fade but scrapbooks are forever, according to Scrapbook Garden West, on Maple Street, stocking albums, acid-free paper, and more. A pair of regional malls -- Town East Square and Town West Square -- anchor respective sides of the city, each anchored by Dillard's, JCPenney and Sears. The two-level Town East Square on East Kellogg Drive features more than 150 stores, and Town West Square on West Kellogg Drive has more than 120 shops. On North Maize Road with a pleasant buzz of main street-style ambiance, NewMarket Square ranks as Wichita's largest open-air shopping center, with shops for apparel to sporting goods and home décor. Bradley Fair on Rock Road features shops from Ann Taylor and Banana Republic to Talbots and Williams-Sonoma. The Waterfront, at Webb Road and 13th, has Kate Lane and GM Clotheshorse with other shops and eateries. Tallgrass Centre, on 21st Street, and The Shops at Tallgrass provide for apparel, jewelry, children's wear, home furnishings, and more. Parklane has a Junior League shop, and Clifton Square has Foggy Bottoms Apparel & Bridal. Chisholm Trail Stores offer discounted clothing, shoes, house wares, books, and toys, plus miniature golf, and an 8-screen cinema. The Andover Antique Mall and Paramount Antique Mall & Pavilion feature quality antiques and collectibles, the latter with a monthly indoor flea market.
